ABOUT US

First Baptist Powell is a gospel-centered church family in Powell, Tennessee, committed to loving God and loving others. We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are God-breathed and are the only infallible rule for faith and life. By God’s grace, we aim to see every member grow into maturity in Christ through faithful worship, biblical preaching, and discipleship.

We are creedal in our faith, meaning we confidently affirm the historic confessions of the catholic (universal) church, for example the Apostles’ Creed and Nicene Creed, as faithful summaries of biblical truth. In doing so, we join the common confession of the global church across time and cultures, rooted in the faith once delivered to the saints and united around the triune God, the incarnation of Christ, and the hope of the resurrection.

We are Reformed in our theology, standing in the tradition of the Protestant Reformation and affirming its five central distinctives: Scripture alone as our final authority, grace alone as the source of salvation, faith alone as the means of justification, Christ alone as our only mediator and Redeemer, and the glory of God alone as the ultimate purpose of all things. Flowing from these convictions, we confess that God sovereignly saves sinners who are spiritually dead, graciously taking the initiative to call, regenerate, and grant faith through the gospel. We believe that all whom God saves He faithfully preserves, conforming them to Christ by the Holy Spirit until the end.

We are Baptist by conviction, meaning we practice believer’s baptism by immersion and affirm a regenerate church membership—those who have personally trusted in Christ and commit themselves to a local church family for worship, discipleship, accountability, and mission.
